Housing Digest

This service is provided to subscribers of H-France to connect people offering housing in France with people in need of housing. To post a housing notice, please follow the following guidelines:

Only subscribers to H-France may post on this site. To subscribe, go to our subscriber page at www.h-france.net/subscribe.html. H-France only lists postings of housing offered or sought in France. Properties outside France will be posted only if they are being offered in exchange for a property in France. Subscribed members should send their postings directly to the H-France listserv (H-FRANCE@LISTS.UAKRON.EDU). It will be forwarded to the housing editor, who will post it on this page and distribute a weekly digest of new postings to H-France subscribers. Please allow one week for your housing notice to be posted. Be sure to include all necessary information: contact information, general description of the location, general description of the apartment, dates apartment is available, rental price.

This page is updated on a weekly basis. All postings will be removed after four weeks. Accommodations that are still available after that time will need to be resubmitted. The publication of these notices does not constitute their endorsement by H-France. H-France will not post any notices that are discriminatory in any manner.

Caution: A number of con artists have been using this site to search for targets. One of the main tactics is to ask for payment to be wired to an account and then deactivating their email address. This is still a relatively rare occurrence but it has been happening recently enough to warrant this advisory note.  The Editors of H-France advise you to use caution when interacting with prospective landlords overseas, even if they advertise on this site. Most reputable landlords can provide references from previous tenants or accept payment through a more protected means such as Paypal.

There were no new postings for the week of July 6.

Two-Room Paris Apartment in the 20th for Rent (or exchange with London or Toronto). We are renting (or exchanging with London or Toronto) a two-room apartment in  the 20th arrondissement with starting date between July and September 2020 for as long as you need it, but at least until the end of May 2021. Start and end dates are flexible. I am particularly happy to rent to grad students writing their dissertations in Paris or to professors on sabbatical leave. The price of 1600 Euro/month includes wifi, gas and electric, taxes and all building charges. There is a 1500 Euro refundable deposit. The apartment is located in the lively, artsy 20th arrondissement, close to Metro Gambetta and four bus lines leading to all points in Paris. The neighbourhood has lots of restaurants, bars, cafes, wonderful markets, theatres, cinemas, an indoor swimming pool, and sites, including Père Lachaise cemetery. The apartment itself is 38 m2, has a bedroom and a salon separated by a small kitchen and bathroom, and is located on a side street on the sixth floor, so it is both extraordinarily quiet, and very airy and light, with a lovely roof top view (and yes, there is an elevator.) It is equipped with a coffee machine, pots and pans and dishes, a microwave and a washing machine. It is most suitable for a single or a couple. Two roommates can also live there comfortably, though one of the roommates would have to sleep on the fold-out couch in the living room. The building dates from the turn of the last century and the apartment has all the nice accoutrements that go with that: a fire place, wood floors, a bit of stucco and a small balcony off the kitchen. You can reach the centre of town within 20 minutes, but you can also withdraw from the more touristy Paris by coming back home to what Maurice Chevalier, a native of the quartier, called “le vrai Paris”. If you are interested, please write a message to cwiedmer@fus.edu. Photos and references available upon request. Again, of you have an apartment or room to exchange for the 20/21 academic year in either London or Toronto (2 daughters at university!) we would be happy to consider, but this is not a pre-condition for rental.
